ROLL-OUT…ROLL-OUT!! Okay now that I’ve got that out of my system I’d like to begin by saying sooner or later I figure I’m gonna stop ridin’ this gravy train…but it’s gonna be LATER rather than SOONER due in large to the heat that J.Crew continues to churn out. The Fall line up is sure to not disappoint as many have seen with the women’s Fall (1) line which rolled out last week. Now it’s the men’s turn which rolls out this week. There are a couple of items I’m really feelin at the moment such as the Bleached Nailhead Utility Shirt, the Grey Vintage Chambray Utility Shirt, the new Denim Shirt, as well as a couple of their button-down secret wash shirts and bow ties. They’ve really stepped up their grown-up game adding amazing sports coats such as the Solid Tweed Ludlow, as well as the Whitman Herringbone Ludlow. I can go on and on but will end it on this note. Mickey Drexler’s impressive partnership pairings continue to be phenomenal. This year he’s added Surf NYC and Russel Moccasin to the mix as well as one of my favorite bloggers Michael Williams A Continous Lean (ACL). So if you have time this week I’d urge you to stop in Wednesday to check out the new goods as well as the MASSIVE FINAL SALE if you haven’t already.
Check out Lupe’s new freestyle over Rick Ross’ B.M.F. (Blowin Money Fast) beat (look out for the Houston reference at 4:25!)
There’s also a petition going around to get Atlantic Records to finally release Lasers, which has allegedly been ready for release for over a year now. Sign the petition here.
Another one of my favorite brands right now is Toronto’s Ransom Holding Company. I first caught wind of Ransom while in Toronto for 7 long months in 2008 (for work). Like a lot of other brands these days, it’s definitely workwear inspired, but the designs, colors, and fits are always on point. They even caught the eye of Adidas recently, and have a few footwear collabos with them.
For the Texas people, I’m not sure if Motive807 in Austin is still around, but I know they were a stockist of the brand at one point.
Their Summer/Fall line is supposedly droppin’ soon – here’s a few of my favorite pieces from their previous lines:

Truth be told when I first learned of Gourmet a few years ago I was not impressed with their silhouettes. The brand wasn’t even on my radar until I saw their Spring/Summer 2010 collection earlier this year. That’s when I started paying more attention to the brand, and then yesterday Sneakernews posted pics of the upcoming Fall/Winter line. I am now convinced I need more than one Gourmet pair in my collection.
I think the brand’s direction is right in line with where street fashion is going. The more established streetwear brands are expanding deeper and deeper in their cut and sew offerings, and many pieces have a more grown up look than what we’ve seen in the past (e.g. Supreme). I don’t care how deep your collection is – a pair of J’s or SB’s just won’t work that well with certain units (as a sidenote I do want to say Mayer Hawthorne pulled off the Dunk and Suit combo really well in his “Easy Lovin” music video, no pause needed). Every now and then you got to get your grown man on, and Gourmet’s clean designs are the perfect choice to dress things up a bit without looking like a preppy douche.

Big Ups to Houston Bloggers Six Hundered Squared for giving us an amazing and insightful (humorous) take on Quinceaneras and what not to do if you’re ever getting ready to celebrate or plan one. So if you’re like me and from time to time tend to notice a flood…scratch that a SEA of flamingo pink, blue or yellow at the Galleria, have no fear because I believe this letter will definitely put an end to all this madness!

Dear Quinceañera, damas and chambelanes,
I can’t take it anymore. I don’t understand it. I felt someone has to say something because surely, no one is.
Why in the world are you and your “court” going dressed up walking around The Galleria in your dresses and terrible suits? I understand you have time to kill, seeing as the church services were earlier in the day and the dance hall on Harwin (aka El Salon) isn’t available for your party until 9pm because the bbq function currently in progress doesn’t end until 7, but there are other ways to kill time. In fact, I went ahead and made a list of things you should not do:
- Go to the galleria.
Yeah, see that wasn’t that bad of a list was it? At this point, I totally wouldn’t judge you if you went to Red Lobster right after the church service (ok actually I would, especially since your tia sitting at the end of the table is stuffing the cheddar biscuits in her purse like there’s a black market for them. Someone should tell her she can get a box). Heck, old school Exhilarama at Memorial City is a better option if it was still there.
I’ve been searching for a crystal-clear meaning of the word “Hipster” for quite some time now and still have not found a concrete definition of this term. So instead of searching for a definition, I came across a fantasitc series of photographs by Parson school graduate Julia Chesky that to me define a true “hipster.” Chesky shot this series with art director Ali Lee and Chris and interesting (homeless) model
“Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice. I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.”

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE Katy Perry fan. Pretty girl, catchy songs (that play over and over on the radio)…what’s not to like. Here is yet another reason to love the California Gurl who’s been having quite the year.

Yesterday, to much fanfare, Katy released her new album cover saying there will be no words, just art…and pages that smell like cotton candy. The painting was done by artist Will Cotton who was also the creative inspiration behind the video for California Gurls. Check out the rest of his stuff because it’s quite good.
Teenage Dream drops August 24. Two copies please!
P.S. Sorry guys…I just couldn’t resist!
